Another Yasujiro Ozu’s movie ‘An Autumn Afternoon’, someone uploaded the soundtrack on youtube, the only Ozu’s movie soundtrack that I found. I haven’t watched the movie yet, but its soundtrack is lovely to listen to. I hope you will enjoy the songs as much as I do 🙂

I’ve remembered the first time I watched one of Ozu’s movie when my film studies’ lecture in college gave us few director names to study their works. Ozu is one on the list. Late Autumn was my first Ozu’s film I watched, but it didn’t bring any special impression back then, maybe because I was too young and too obsessed and too impressed with Michel Gondry’s fancy visual manipulation. It was like 10 years ago, oh God!

Last week, while browsing in youtube randomly, I found someone made a tribute video to Yosujiro Ozu, and it was triggering me to re-watch Late Autumn. It took years to let me fall in love with the movie. What I can say this is a happy and a handsome movie, a cinema that speaks to my soul. This impression I got now was totally different to what I had a decade ago.

Films appearing in tribute: Equinox Flower (1958), Good Morning (1959), Floating Weeds (1959), Late Autumn (1960), The End of Summer (1961), An Autumn Afternoon (1962).

I was continuing myself to watch Late Spring, the movie was made in 1949. I believe, this is one of Ozu’s favorite of his owns. Late Spring offers tenderness in the place of melodrama, and I can understand why as the director tells a simple story with relatable truths and honest intensity, even though the relationship is rather unusual by Western traditions.

I am more amazed and further impressed. As a director, he was a master of understated elegance. Sincerely, I urge anybody that love cinema to see his movies, quite simply one of the greatest films I have seen. What a gem! ❤

istirahatlah kata-kata

Usmar Ismail’s Tiga Dara is my all time favorite movie since I was a kid. The last time in 2012, I had a chance to re-watched this movie in Museum Bank Mandiri for ‘Lajar Tanjep’ which’s held by Ade Poernama. That time, the quality of the film was pretty bad, it got scratch everywhere, dirty, and dust. The sound was awful.

Few months later on June 2012, Lewat Djam Malam, another Usmar Ismail’s masterpiece got an opportunity to be screened in cinemas after a year restoration process in Laboratorium L’Immagine Ritrovata, Bologna, Italia. I wished Tiga Dara would also have a chance one day.

In 2015, my wish came true, ‘Tiga Dara’ won a golden ticket to get restorated at the same laboratory with its brother ‘Lewat Djam Malam’. After 17 months process, the movie finally has been screened start from few days ago on 11 August 2016 in cinemas.

The 4k quality is fantastic, it’s pretty clear and clean, the sound’s amazing. I can see all my favorite scenes clearly. Can’t wait for the Blu-ray DVDs released on next year.
